If Side b = 12 and side c = 20 find side a, length d and lengths AD and DB

First of all, side A can be found using the Pythagorean theorem. 400-144=256, so a=16.

Triangles ADC and ABC are similar. Therefore, the sides of the triangles will be proportionate. The hypotenuse of ADC is 12 and of ABC is 20, so the proportion is 12/20 or 3/5. Length d=16*3/5=9.6. AD=12*3/5=7.2. The Pythagorean theorem verifies these lengths: 9.6^2 + 7.2^2 = 12^2.

Finally, DC=20-7.2=12.8
